Applications: Heating Elements

Manufactured from wire, tape, ribbon or strip, most frequently from Nichrome 80/20 material due to its high resistance. Elements are either embedded or supported on the surface of the electrical insulating material. Applications include ovens and heat treatment equipment, furnaces for industrial heating, floor heating.

Applications: Hot Cutting Wire

Used for the accurate cutting of complex shapes from polystyrene foam (EPS) - by hand or by CNC machine - and used extensively in the packaging industry. Also used for architectural mouldings, theatrical props and modelling.

Application: Heat Sealers

Heat Sealers are used to seal thermoplastic materials using heat generated from resistance wires, ribbons or strips. Sealers are either Impulse (for sealing similar materials) or Constant (sealing dissimilar materials). Typical applications are packaging and bag sealing.

Application: Resistors

Resistors are common components of electrical networks and electronic circuits, and are present in most electronic equipment. Resistors are made from various compounds as well as high-resistivity alloy such as nichrome wire.

Application: Industrial

Special nickel alloys have many industrial uses other than electrical resistance heating. Such examples are corrosion and heat resistant applications of the Monel and Inconel alloys in industries such as chemical and food processing.

Nickel Chrome Alloys

Nickel Chrome alloys, or Nichrome alloys have excellent electrical resistance properties, operating at temperatures up to 1200 °C. This property coupled with high resistance to oxidation and chemical corrosion makes these alloys ideal for use as resistance wires in furnaces and heat treatment applications.

Copper Nickel alloys

Copper Nickel alloys or Cupro Nickel alloys operate at temperatures up to 400°C, have a low temperature coefficient of resistance and medium resistivity, plus high resistance to oxidation and chemical corrosion. Typical applications are electrical resistors and thermocouples.

ICA Alloys

ICA Alloys or Iron Chrome Aluminium alloys are ferromagnetic alloys that can be used as resistance wire, particularly in electrical heating elements. These alloys can operate at high temperatures up to 1250°C, but suffer from higher corrosion than nickel chrome alloys.

Nickel Iron Alloys

Nickel Iron Alloys or Glass Sealing Alloys have a low and constant thermal expansion. As the coefficient of thermal expansion approximately matches that of glass, the alloy is used extensively as a glass seal in the manufacture of lamps and electronic equipment.

Nickel Alloys

Nickel Alloys - the most common of which are Nickel (Alloy 200), Monel (Alloy 400) and Inconel (Alloy 600) - exhibit very high strength and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures, plus excellent electrical resistance.

Wire drawing/annealing

Omega Resistance Wire's range of wire drawing machines enables wire to be drawn in diameters from 0.10mm up to 10.00mm. Wire is drawn in a variety of materials including the nickel chrome alloys, nickel copper alloys and stainless steels. A high quality, diamond drawn finish is standard.

Our annealing facilities comprise 2 strand annealing lines.

Tape and strip

Omega Resistance Wire has substantial capability in producing resistance tape or ribbon, rolled flat wire and precision sheared strip. Products are generally manufactured to a specified resistance but can be produced to tight dimensional tolerances.

Stranding/bunching

We operate a range of tubular stranding equipment capable of producing stranded wire ropes in nickel chrome alloys, nickel copper alloys, nickel and stainless steel. Strand can be manufactured to resistance and set spool lengths, or cut lengths as required.

Cut to length

Omega Resistance Wire has a comprehensive range of straighten and cut to length machines. Our capability extends from very fine wires to large diameter, and flat wires, stranded wires and strip products. A particular expertise is the straightening and cutting to length of very fine wires to strict dimensional tolerances and surface finish.

Rewinding and spooling

Wire can be supplied in coils of specified dimensions and weights. Additionally, we can supply the wire on spools (high strength thermoplastic bobbins) that are available in a range of standard sizes and weights.
